SYNOPSIS

A long-running drama based upon the "Little House" series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, "Little House on the Prairie" follows the lives of the simple, farming Ingalls family: Charles, Caroline, Mary, Laura, Carrie and then Grace and the later adopted Albert, James and Cassandra, who settle into a quaint little house on the banks of Plum Creek near the small town of Walnut Grove during the late 1800s. Often narrated by Laura, the series follows her simple farm upbringing from her childhood until her adulthood with Almanzo Wilder with whom she starts a family of her own. While the series is based upon the Little House books (and thus the real life of author Laura Ingalls Wilder), it is a very loose adaptation, with mostly only key events and elements of fact surviving the transition from book to TV series, the most important being Mary's eventual blindness, and Laura's future. Several other fictitious (some factual) characters make up the friendly community of Walnut Grove, including teacher Miss Beadle (succeeded by two other teachers, then Laura, then Etta Plum), Dr. Hiram Baker, Rev. Robert Alden, Mr. Hanson (of the Hanson lumber mill), and the well-to-do Olesons, owners of the local mercantile, and also the primary rivals of the Ingalls family (except the Oleson patriarch). Family friends include the Edwards family, the Garvey family and the Carters, who, in the final season, move into the Ingalls' little house.

Little House on the Prairie

The idea for the TV series Little House on the Prairie originated form the book written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which was a best seller at the time it was published. Those who read the book and saw the film consider there were rather too many discrepancies but overall the series was quite successful.

Viewers who like the atmosphere that films set in the West may bring into one’s home do not care much about the differences and claim that the show was a good one mostly because many other characters were added to the series. This made the series one of the few successfully long-running dramatic family shows.

If you get the Little House on the Prairie DVD you will see that in spite of the flavour of a drama, the series has fairly many comic elements which are meant to entertain the serious viewer. Most comedic moments are brought about the supporting cast members for characters like: Mr. Edwards, the Oleson family (Nels, Harriet, Nellie and Willie).

If you like drama series, a Little House on the Prairie Bluray may be exactly what you need. You can watch it according to your time schedule, whenever you feel like it, and still get a great atmosphere into your home thanks to the nice characters contained in it.

The central figures of the series are the Ingalls. Charles Ingalls, a farmer and patriarch, and his wife Caroline have four daughters: Mary, Laura, Carry and Grace. After their move to Winoka, the family also adopts a child named Albert Quinn who is ten years old. Later, the Ingalls adopt more children, a brother and sister (James and Cassandra Cooper) whose parents died in a wagon accident.

Besides the main characters you will meet other important figures in the series: the friendly Nels Oleson who is the owner of the local general store, his wife Harriet, a terrible gossiper and their two rather spoilt children Willie and Nellie; Reverend Dabbs Greer, the proprietor of the town’s mill and Dr. Hiram Baker, the local doctor.
Get the Blu-Ray format; it will guarantee the perfect view for you to enjoy the nice series Little House on the Prairie at home.
