Martin was an American sitcom produced by HBO Independent Productions (a subsidiary of HBO) that aired for five seasons, from August 27, 1992 to May 1, 1997 on FOX. The show starred actor-comedian Martin Lawrence, Thomas Mikal Ford, Carl Anthony Payne II, Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell as Gina.

Reflecting the rising popularity of the FOX network throughout the 1990s, Martin was one of their highest-rated shows during the sitcom's five-season run. Reruns air in syndication in most major U.S. cities, and also air daily nationwide on the TV One cable network.

Set in Detroit, this sitcom stars Martin Lawrence in the role of Martin Payne, a young disc jockey who in later seasons becomes a television talk-show host, and his comic misadventures with his closest friends. Martin works for the fictional radio station WZUP, and later for local public-access TV station Channel 51. A common theme of the series is Martin's derisive and brash nature; episodes often center on Martin's inconsideration towards his friends, neighbors, and whomever else might find themselves in his presence. When all is said and done, though, Martin loves his family and friends - it just takes dire situations to bring it to light.

Martin Lawrence DVD show box set complete TV series all episodes and seasons on DVDs

The American sitcom known as "Martin" and produced by HBO Independent Productions (this being a subsidiary of HBO) aired for five seasons starting with August 27 year 1992 until May2st year 1997 on Fox. This show is starring great actor-comedians like Martin Lawrence, Tichina Arnold, Carl Anthony Payne II, and Tisha Campbell.

During the 1990's the Fox network enjoyed improved ratings and the American sitcom "Martin" was also an important influence. During the whole five seasons this sitcom enjoyed great ratings. Even if BC was popular with "Must See TV" aired on Thursday nights, there was an important African-American public who turned their attention towards "Martin". The three highest rated television series among black households were: Martin, New York Undercover and Living Single during the period of 1996-1997.

The storyline

"Martin" presents the character Martin Payne (played by Martin Lawrence) who lives in Detroit, Michigan as a disc jockey and his girlfriend Gina (played by Tisha Campbell-Martin). Martin works for the radio station WZUP and later gets hired for the local public-access TV station Channel 51. The show also presents Martin's brash nature along with inconsiderate attitude towards his friends and whoever might be in his presence. Despite all this, Martin loves his family and friends - but there is a need for important situations to bring this to light.

As the seasons progress, Martin loses his job and gets hired as the host of the talk show called "Word on the Street" which was aired mainly in Detroit on the small public-access TV station 51. He will maintain this job position until the end of the last season, when he and Gina decide to move to LA. This is when the show started being aired nationally. This decision to move was the perfect match since Gina got her promotion to head up her boss company at the LA headquarters. Gina's boss is Mr. Witaker whose wife Pam decided to pursue a career in music and leaves the show. In the first shows of "Martin" the character starts with a monologue while speaking to the camera and audience, the location being the darkened radio station where he was initially working.
